Winter

Winter is almost here!  Not too recently, it snowed!  There are so many different forms of snowflakes. There are ones that look like exquisite crystals, the ones that look like miniature hail and the giant fluffy ones that are great for building snow forts and snowmen :)!  Winter can get a bit old though, by March I am normally tired of it!  One good thing about winter is that you have more time to write.  Plus winter break!  Also there are so many holidays around this time of early winter, Christmas, Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, and many more.  Even if you don't celebrate any holidays around this time, you still can have fun with all the festive atmosphere!
                                                    Happy Holidays everyone!

Autumn

Autumn

Leaves crunching under foot,
Crows in the wheat field,
Singing their lonely song.
And the wind blows softly to sway the trees,
And the full moon shines all night long.
And the grass turns brown, as it whispers it's cry,
That autumn is here at last.

Deer

Hooves softly bounding,
On the dark brown forest floor.
Antlers tall and strong.

Deer.

The Dive

With the sun in my eyes,
There is nothing else I can see,
As I start to dive.
I bend and gracefully curve,
Into the water.
I feel my hands go in,
While my legs are still exposed,
To air.
My hands skim the bottom of the lake,
And I go up, up.
I break the surface of the water,
And I take a deep breath,
As I swim back to the dock to go again.

Review of The Healing Spell by Kimberley Little

The Healing Spell is a slightly sad book about old endings and new beginnings.  When 11 year old Livie's mom falls into a coma, she knows she is responsible.  She finds a healing spell that she hopes will heal her mother and  help solve her family's problems .  A heartwarming story about magic, hope, and love, Livie's story is a good GREAT one at best.

A Spring Poem By One Of My Readers

Spring

Finally. Warmer days.
Finally.  Longer days, sunshine, and crocuses poking their,
heads up for all to see.
Finally.  A little bit of green here and there.
Finally. Spring!

By Virginia

Hi everyone!  I hope that poem inspired you to write your own poem about spring!  Please tell me any book or type of poem you want me to blog about.

Water and Wood

Hi guys!  Here is a song I wrote.

(at first the song is gentle, peaceful, and calm)

Are you wood or are you water?
Are you free or are you blocked?
Are you wood or are you water?

(pause)

Even an iron grate can't keep water in,
It always gets out, by flowing between the cracks.
But wood, well it flows a little less,
Gets stuck between the cracks,
And it won't go on.

(chorus: loud and upbeat)

Will you sing your heart out?
Will you dance like crazy?
Will you make your own tunes,
Or just sing along?
Will you flip your hair back?
Will you raise your arms up?
Will you make a difference?
Or just sit in the shadows?

(back to gentler, calmer tune)

Are you wood or are you water?
Are you free or are you blocked?
Are you wood or are you water?

(almost a chant, gets louder and louder)

Are you flowing?
Are you free?
Are you flowing?
Are you free?
Are you flowing?
Are you free?
Are you FREE!

( chorus again so loud and upbeat)

Will you sing your heart out?
Will you dance like crazy?
Will you make your own tunes,
Or just sing along?
Will you flip your hair back?
Will you raise your arms up?
Will you make a difference?
Or just sit in the shadows?

(back to gentle tune)

Everybody makes mistakes,
Even the best of us,
But,
Not everyone counts them as failures.

'Cause are you wood or are you water?
Are you wood or are you water?
Are you wood or are you water?

Spring! Flowers! Poetry!

Hi Everybody,
Spring is almost here...at my house the snow is melting rapidly!
If anyone has some spare time please write a poem about
spring, birds, flowers or anything that has to do with spring.  Here is a poem I wrote:

Spring
Flowers blooming all around us,
Showing us that spring is here,
A bird's sweet song,
acts as a lullaby,
For a sleeping baby.

-Norah

Good luck with coming up with some poems about spring!

Writing With Pictures

Have you ever seen a picture and it tells a story as good as or better than you could make it with words?  This is what I call writing with pictures.  Sometimes pictures are as important to a story as words.  Pictures to go along with a story often open up your imagination.  I have a little challenge for you: write a poem or a short story and draw a picture to go along with it.  The picture can be as detailed or as simple as you want as long as it's relevant to the story.  Please have fun and get writing...And drawing!!!

Change

Our wants are not needs,
Earth will adapt, we cannot.
Change, or we vanish.

Potential

Just beneath the snow,
Seeds and larvae, sleeping things,
Life waits underground.

Cold Dreams

Winter pens us in,
Bodies trapped,so with our minds,
We explore outside.

Hideaway

Here is another haiku I wrote. It's called Hideaway.

A secret hideout,
Strung with leaves and happiness,
A fragment of joy.

Poem Share: Haiku

Hi everyone!

I decided to have a 'poem share'!  Every couple of months I'll pick a different type of poetry. (Haiku,Limerick etc.) February, March and April are all Haiku months!!  How my poem share will work is that anyone can write a poem in the comments and I'll post ALL submissions.  A haiku is a poem with three lines.  There are five syllables on the first and third lines and seven syllables on the second line.  My poem "Jays" is a haiku.
Here is the first submission:

The soft, warm sunlight,
Falling on my face and arms,
The sweet smell of spring.

Thanks for reading!!!

A wonderful, suspenseful book; it was a lot of fun to read!
